Overheard at the doctor's...

Two ladies meet - combined ages about 200.

- Haven't seen you for ages!
- No, we were on a cruise.
- How was it?
- Terrible.
- Oh? Why's that?
- We went to the Azores. From Southampton. It's in the middle of the Atlantic, you know, the Azores. Five days we were on that boat. And there was nothing to see when we got there.
- Were there no activities on the boat?
- Aye, it was fine if you like swimming or sunbathing.
- No shows?
- They were terrible too.
- Nice restaurants? Good food?
- Too fancy.
- Did you just call in at the Azores?
- We went to Madeira. That was terrible as well.
- Doesn't sound as if cruising is the thing for you.
- We're going another cruise next year. To the Caribbean. We're hoping there'll be a bit more to see.....

Money's wasted on people like this.

  2. Some of the conversations I've had with people about where I've lived in Scotland are breathtaking: You lived out there, didn't you? Out there? Yeah,(vague wave of the hand) the Western Isles. No, I lived in Islay. Is that not the same thing?

Dunoon? Is that not near Greenock? Only if you're a seagull!

Mind you, admitting I've lived in France was worse: You had to go there for a year? Did they make you?

  3. Been to the Azores and Madeira (not on a cruise ship)and both are wonderful. Watching passengers coming ashore from cruise ships at Ponta Delgada was our morning's entertainment. Would post a photo but don't know how to do it in a comment on a blog. Geoff - Help!!!

  4. Just found this, thanks to the wonder of Facebook and love it; will be back.

To add to the "money's wasted on people like this" category: posh, elderly lady accosted my husband in his thankfully brief career as a manager for a well known supermarket chain and berated him about how cold it was in certain parts of the store and how she was going to complain to Head Office and her MP and - yes- she was in the frozen and chilled foods section.

The explanation that health and safety dictated these temperatures was dismissed, contemptuously and she stormed out of the store, leaving her trolley of groceries behind. This in not hearsay and is not a popular myth but real life, people!! Perhaps I need my own blog to moan in.....

  5. Yep, I reckon even if no one ever reads it, the blog has such a cathartic effect lessons in setting up a blog should be available on the NHS.
